God is here

“What does the divine immanence mean in direct Christian experience? It means simply that God is here. Wherever we are, God is here. There is no place, there can be no place, where He is not. Ten million intelligences standing at as many points in space and separated by incomprehensible distances can each one say with equal truth, God is here. No point is nearer to God from any place as it is from any other place. No one is in mere distance any further from or any nearer to God than any other person.”
-from “The Pursuit of God” by A.W. Tozer, p. 58

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If i ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
-Psalm 139:7-12 (ESV)

One of Satan’s lies that I’ve been confronted with and battled with since I’ve been here in Mae Hong Son is something that I think he often uses to discourage believers in every place. Other missionary friends have shared how they too have been attacked with the lie that “you are alone” and “God is not near.” “You are forgotten.” It’s for that very reason that I changed the title of my blog last year (again! – seems to be a yearly thing…) to “With.” Remembering and holding onto the truth that God is INDEED with me has been life-giving and freeing. It’s given me such security in Him as His daughter.

Nearly two years ago God gave me a vision of Jesus sauntering down the street in my village. He had a huge grin on his face and He was waving to my neighbours, who responded enthusiastically to Him and His presence. That image helps me remember that even though it may seem like God is not at work here and that I am alone that HE is at work and HE IS EMMANUEL. He is here. God is here. Thanks be to God!
